Windows 7 Home install using Pro key

    Hi,

I recently had my SSD fail and die on me and I am going to reinstall Windows 7 then do the free upgrade to Windows 10 (again).
I have a Windows 7 Pro key but would prefer to install the Home Edition as I don't require the extra features and don't want to use up any extra hardware resources.
Is this possible to do or would I need to purchase an extra Home Edition key?

The short answer is no. You have to use the version that the key is for. There are very few extra resources used with the Pro version (actually just software) and if that is an issue, your system should not really be upgraded to Win 10.

    Thanks for the speedy reply.
I'll just continue with the Win 7 Pro edition then and then once Win 10 is installed I'll simply disable the unused applications / services.
