I did work it out, it's the flash drivers which is foiling the install and causing windows 7 problems with writing files to the wrong place. I removed the flash drives after adding the drivers and that solved it. It makes me wonder how it will work if jnstalling from a flash drive instead of a DVD. I did buy one of the flash drives in order to do that but so far have not got around to using it for that purpose. However I think that I should as it should speed things up as I do need to reinstall yet again as the last one failed because my video is turning off after the install which means I cannot see anything. It is meant to complete the install but never completes as I cannot see anything and cannot respond to any prompts.

Therefore I need to install video drivers which will hopefully prevent windows from disabling the video.

BTW my monitor failed so I am having to use a TV out until I can find a replacement monitor. OMG I have really been hit with lots of crap in the last few months with failing monitors, hard drives, keyboards, TV remotes, and motherboards making life extremely difficult. I need to get this windsows install working so that I can RMA my main PC motherboard and the guarantee expires very soon.

So I have to do yet another install. Any tips on getting a flash drive install working without major issues with windows preventing the install? I cannot remove the flash drive if it is being used to install windows.

I think the drive will be okay now, there was only one bad sector on it and it should all be fixed now. It must be about 12 to 13 years old but has had very little use. I must sort out the RMA so need this system working ASAP.

    USB Flash install errors

I have been having many problems getting Windows 7 installed to my new Samsung SSD drive. First a little relevant background info.

My Monitor has failed and I need to find a replacement which means an LED Panel. My last monitor was a CRT display. I have read of some people having problems with the backlights on LED monitors and I suspect that I will be the same as I do have lots of difficulty with brightness and avoid white screens. Anyway I am having to use a TV out on a Radeon HD8500 via S-Video which is very poor quality and difficult to read without magnification. I did do an installation of Win 7 which completed up until the reboot where setup options need to be set. Here is where I ran into problems because windows disabled the video out so I could not complete the setup because I could not see anything.......the display was black.

So I thought that I would have to install the display driver and chipset drivers to make sure that the display stayed on after setup. I thought that I would create a USB flash drive for the windows install files and use NLite to integrate the drivers. This seemed like a good plan or I thought!

Now I am running into problems such as getting the USB flash to boot if formatted as Fat32 whereas Ntfs boots okay but I suspect that this is causing problems. I used rufus to make the flash drive and I have also tried A Bootable USB by AskVG which also created a Ntfs USB flash drive as default. Rufus does allow creation of a Fat32 drive but none of which would boot after trying 3 different flash drives.

The Ntfs flash drive boots the install files but it will not install giving a 80300001 error "windows cannot be installed to drive 1 partition 1". It has also shown me "setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition". I have deleted partitions, recreated them with windows but this does not help. The result is I cannot get it to install. I have tried removing the flash drive at various times, after accepting the terms and after clicking the install as I suspect that windows wants to write to a drive and is choosing the flash drive, it being a ntfs drive makes that seem even more likely IMO. However this has not helped. I did read online that refreshing the drives/partitions allows it to install but this did not work. EVERY drive/partition shows the same error. I have a hard drive and SSD on this PC and the SSD is set as the first boot device in the Bios and I use a Bios boot menu to boot from the flash drive.

I am really stuck with this, it's taken 2 weeks so far and I have got no where!

Can anyone please provide me with any help to get this installed? Frankly I have had enough of it all.
