Partition Wizard won't copy Drive C: to new SSD
Hi
I'm trying to install a new SSD for my husband which will contain two copies of Windows 7. This is so I can make it dual boot and overwrite the second copy of Windows 7 by upgrading it to Windows 10. However, Partition Wizard is causing me a few problems and will not allow me to do this.
The current SSD (Drive C:) is 126GB of which approx 78GB is currently in use leaving approx 46GB unused; the new drive is 240GB and will be divided into two equal partitions of approx 120GB when I've finished. Therefore I'm trying to copy 126GB to 120GB of unallocated space; Partition Wizard is supposed to allow this by copying with resize. To ensure an unallocated space of 120GB for the first copy, I've created one partition of 120GB and tried copying Drive C: to the unallocated space of 120GB. However, Partition Wizard will not allow me to do this as it detects a disk config change and will not continue. I've been on the Partition Wizard site and looked at the FAQs and done what it said to do but still I get the same message and it cannot continue.
Incidentally, I'm trying to do this by connecting the new SSD to a desktop hard disk setup connected to a USB port.
I know there are people on this forum who are much more familiar with Partition Wizard than I am and I'm hoping that someone can tell me how to solve this particular problem. I'm also hoping that I have explained what I am trying to do in a way that people can understand. However, if more info is required then please ask and I'll do what I can to help.
Hoping to hear from someone soon.
Tracey
PS I haven't tried using the PW boot disk yet - that is my next move. In the meantime though any help would be appreciated.
