Windows 7 Installation Disc Will Not Load Properly

    Hello everyone! :)

I'm downgrading from 8.1 to 7 again (tried 8.1 for two weeks and hated it) but I've run into a problem when installing.

I've formatted the hard drive (fat32) from a Macbook.

I also disabled Secure Boot in the BIOS.

The laptop powers up and let's me boot from disc, it loads the files but then it just stops doing anything. I left it for 30 minutes with no change before I repeated the process, the same thing happened again - nothing.

I've taken some (bad, sorry) photos of it to show you where it gets. If anyone could help me I'd really appreciate it, I've downgraded this laptop before so I know it's possible, just not sure why it's throwing a tantrum now!

I'm currently running a full hard drive test while I find (or am given) a solution.

    Thank you all :)

Hello Aimee. Is your installation disc an original or burned one? There could be an issue with the disc.
You could try downloading the ISO and burning a new one and see if that helps?

Download Windows 7 ISOs, Legally and for Free | PCsteps.com

If not you may need to reformat the HDD again from the pc you want to install Windows on.

A good tool to try is this one:

Hello there! Thank you for replying. It's an original HP disc :)

Disc looks okay, I would try and burn another one though. At least then we can rule out a problem with the disc (discs can sometimes go bad, disc rot, etc) although this tends to happen more with cheaper discs.

Do you have any spare DVD's lying around?
The other option is try reformatting the drive again.

Just wondering why you chose to format it from your mac and not your PC?

Thank you both for your efforts! I've actually solved the problem, I disabled Secure Boot but I hadn't enabled Legacy in the BIOS. All working! (For now!)

    Thank you very much

Ah great glad it's solved. I overlooked that as I thought you might have done that already
Yeah, in my opinion secure boot and UEFI aren't really needed in 7 as they relate more to Win8 and 10.
Unless you're installing on a HDD over 2GB.

    Glad it's solved anyway!
