It means that you have a problem with your ATI graphics drivers. I'm not sure whether it's really that, or a memory problem.

Have you run a memory diagnostic yet? I'd suggest:

    www.memtest.org

(Download the .iso form, create a CD, and boot from it. The test is OS independent.)

I've read that XP was able to boot on systems with memory errors, while Vista would fail. (That's not a virtue of XP: no one would want to run a system with memory errors.) I expect that Win7 would be the same as Vista.

If you get memory errors, you may be able to manually set the RAM paramters (voltage, timings, frequency) in the BIOS settings to get reliable performance.

That's kind of weird. It might be an XP issue. Now I'm afraid to install it on my Vista computer ha ha.

Do you have onboard graphics chip so you can unplug the graphics card to attempt install?

Are you booting from the installer? Use custom>advanced tools to wipe the drive and format first. Save a backup image of your Vista, or be sure you have recovery disks.
