    Only boots from the usb

I installed windows 7 on a brand new hd from a usb. It will boot up normally with the usb stick. If I remove it, I will get a blinking cursor. If i go to the bios and load up from the hd I get a blinking cursor. I have tried the startup repair yet no errors were found. Does it have something to do with the reserve partition having a different drive letter assigned ?

I installed linux after the problem hoping that grub would fix the boot problem. It gives me the option to load windows from 2 spots but neither will load without the usb. Linux loads up fine.

I am stumped. 2days trying to get this to work. Reinstallation failed to fix it as well.

try to boot up with the windows installer (disc or usb stick) and follow these instructions to make the partition active and bootable:

Select Repair your computer at the Install now screen.

    1. Click No if asked to Repair and Restart.
Click Cancel if it looks for a Disk Image.
    2. Now in System Recovery Options,
      click the Command Prompt option.
Press ENTER after you type in each of these commands which are not case-sensitive:
      • DISKPART (to open the partition utility)
      • LIST DISK (disk number(s) will be shown)
      • SELECT DISK n (where n is the number of the disk - probably 0)
      • LIST PARTITION (partition number(s) will be shown)
      • SELECT PARTITION n (where n is the number of the Primary partition you wish to make Active)
      • ACTIVE (the selected partition on the selected disk will be made Active)
      • EXIT (to exit DiskPart)
      • EXIT (to exit the Command Prompt)

    3. Restart computer.

That did the trick thank you but now I dont have my grub loader. It boots windows automatically without giving me the option to choose linux.
