Windows 7 Home Premium OEM install on new HD on Vista Laptop

Hello,

Just as the title says, I removed the hard drive on my laptop which ran Vista and replaced with a SSD drive I then purchased an OEM Windows 7 Home Premium and proceeded to install. Now I'm not able to activate Windows with provided Product Key.

Here is my MGADiag:

Did you install the Product Key while installing Windows 7 or did get Windows 7 installed and then attempt to put in the Product Key? The preferred way is to do it afterwards. You have a month to make sure things are OK before putting in your Key. When I installed Windows, I waited a few days. I put in the Product Key and I got a prompt that told me to call Microsoft and gave me a phone number. They just ask some questions and eventually tell you what to do to get your Windows activated. == What exactly happened when you put in your Key?

I'm not an expert at MGADiag, but I think

License : COA SLP

means the kind of Windows that is preinstalled at the factory, but you say you bought the disk. Maybe you didn't type the serial in correctly.

Thanks for the replies......

I bought from this site: http://www.play-asia.com/microsoft-w...-oem/13/709jol

They just sent me the product key then said I needed to download Windows 7 iso. Was I screwed trying to save a few bucks?

You will need to ring MS and do phone activation. Don't answer the prompts, wait silently for an operator. They will ask how many machines you have it installed on, correct answer is 1.
