"failed to create a new partition on the selected unused space."

Hello,

So recently my Asus UX31E laptop couldn't boot up into windows 7 by stating "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key". This happened suddenly, but I think what caused this was that I pulled out the power plug from my laptop and froze. (This for some reason happens fairly frequently ever since I had the laptop for 4 years). It wasn't until now that it the above problem started.

I've been told to reinstall windows 7, so I created a bootable usb with the windows 7 iso extracted and copied onto the usb. When I try to reinstall windows through custom options, I bumped into an error in the dialog: "where do you want to install windows".

I was able to see my SSD drive showing as disk 0 unallocated space with a total size of 119.2 GB and 119.2 GB free space. Now the problem is that it says "I cannot install windows on this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's bios menu."

Within my bios, it was able to read my SSD drive and I had set the SATA controller to ACHI mode, Legacy support enabled. The problem still persists.

I was then told that i need to partition my disk which might be causing the problem. I tried to create a new partition of disk 0 by pressing new and allocating 20gb of space into that partition. Now I got another error. ""Failed to create a new partition on the selected unused space. (Error: 0x8007001b)."

I don't know what to do to fix this problem, please help.
FYI I cannot boot windows 7 either.

Thanks in advanced

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
You might try to recover your personal files with either of these
Emergency Kit - save your files from a dead OS

Lucid Puppy way to recover files from a non-bootable computer

Once you get that done just clean the disk and reformat it then clean install

Hi ThrashZone, unfortunately while I was trying to "clean all" I've received an error that the drive cannot find the sector requested. I tried to list disk again and now my SSD drive is missing. I attached the image i took of the command prompt showing what happened. Thanks

FYI: the picture turns right side up when you click on it

Just run the clean command.

What is 28 GB ? Why is that showing up in Diskpart ?

Unplug it before you loose that too.

I ran the clean command and it was successful, but when i try to create partition primary as the next step, the exact same problem occurs again.

the 28gb is my usb bootable drive since i need to reinstall windows and couldn't boot up windows normally on my laptop

Hi,
Don't limit the size of the disk to 20gb,
You can do that later. which 20gb is way too small anyway.
Quote:
Diskpart
List disk
Select disk n (where n is the number that was given for your SSD in List disk)
Clean
Create partition primary align=1024
Format fs=ntfs quick
Active (assuming you want to install an OS)
Exit

How old is this drive, contact the maker for a new one, or trash it.
