On the Toshiba site, which is the missing Toshiba stuff I need?
Ken use the Toshiba site but do use the right PART NO - see my pics for what I mean because using that in the support section will give you the right drivers for your exact machine.

PSLWSA-01000Q - Toshiba Satellite L550 Computer - Australia :: Toshiba :: Computers, Laptops/Notebooks, Tablets, Televisions, DVD and Blu-Ray Players, Camcorders, Storage, Accessories, and more you will need to search for your model.

Well, by dongle I guess you mean wireless, so good luck with that.

Something I found while trying to improve my score is that Dxdiag, apparently is not running etc. and when find dxdiag there is a big yellow X along side it?

Nothing seems to work when I try to install it or get it going.

    Any ideas.

Ken open Start Task Manager and see if the dxdiag is in processes see my pic if you scroll to the right it should give you the size of it approx 6.600K. In my pic I have highlighted it and below is the CPU and memory usage,

Hmm very strange mate I have just swapped my original drive back into this machine tonight because I was running a dual boot not that I think it should make any difference but just checked my Task Manager and my DXdiag is missing now. Shall have to check around for the cause - in the meantime I did find this handy link
What is dxdiag? it outlines some command line stuff but if the dx is not present then I don't see how one could use them.

Edit I just found this too and as it states the process is not essential dxdiag.exe Windows process - What is it?

Well I managed to download about 250 updates, about 1.5 gig through the dongle and my perf. score is 3.9! Aero being the low one,(3.9) many boxes to tick that weren't there are now there, this computer was full of that! And the screen stretch is gone too.

Thankyou everyone for your input, particularly ICIT2LOL!!

Ken mate use this tutorial if I haven't mentioned it before Optimize Windows 7 < I find it makes the machine run more efficiently and a tad faster.

Plus mate of you want to steer clear of 10 stuff for the time being use these
Upgrade to Windows 10 Update - Enable or Disable in Windows 7 or 8.1 - Windows 10 Forums < run the disable batch file and also this Ultimate Outsider - Software Downloads < just the Control Panel I keep the icon for it on the desktop for easy use and once the initial set up has been done you just need to check it reasonably frequently for 10 files - see pic - oh and you can check the updates settings button with this Control Panel too as my settings do get changed at times

I'll get onto all this, if it recovers from an overnight 'crash'........and it was going so well!
