Will old win7 dvd key works for newest win 7 install?

Hi,

Ive read the guide that you can get newest? windows 7 iso from official ms website.
I thought, if i reinstall my very old dvd version i would require tons of patches. Will my dvd key work if i get latest win 7 iso?

1. I have windows 7 home premium. (oem)
2. And i have new mobo, because old is gone.

P.S. my dvd still works and its not that big deal but it doesnt even includes sp1.. So that would be lots of patching. :|

His OEM key will not work at the MS site.

But here`s the link to download Home Premium SP1 64 Bit

The link will expire in 24 hours.

Technically you`re not suppose to use your oem key on the new board, but if you bought an oem dvd and key, you can do whatever you want with it, there`s no reason it won`t work.

Mine did when I tried a few weeks ago. I have burned the ISO to a DVD for the future though I back up with Macrium on a weekly basis so will probably never use the ISO.

You used a branded computer (Dell, Lenovo, HP, Asus, etc) key from the COA and it worked ?

Then they may have used a System Builder`s OEM key, which works, as does mine

Thank you very much!
My cd key is like a decade old just like my pc. So i really appreciate to install almost fully patched windows rather than start from step 1. I saw there is a way to perhaps using WSUS to get updates in .iso as well, before installation. Might be super hard but its better than nothing!

If your machine is ten years old are you sure it has Windows 7 as I think Win 7 was not launched until 2009?

OEM, OEM Builders, OEM/SLP keys are locked to the motherboard they were first installed and activated on.

Please read below.

https://social.microsoft.com/Forums/...enuinewindows7

Quote:
OEM SLP and COA SLP product keys, are issued by large computer manufacturers and use SLP (System Locked Pre-installation) technology to bind the license to the original motherboard via the BIOS and software. The OEM SLP keys self-activate if the corresponding data in the BIOS is correct. OEM SLP keys, which the user can read in the MGADiag report or software like KeyFinder, cannot be used by the end user to manually activate Windows. The COA SLP key is printed on a sticker affixed to the side of the computer case (desktops), or on the bottom of the case (laptops), or in the battery compartment (newer laptops). This is the key for the user to enter manually should he need to activate Windows himself.
- OEM System Builder, product keys are for use by smaller system builders, computer shops, consultants, and others who provide computers and services to their customers. A system builder is defined by the System Builder license as "an original equipment manufacturer, an assembler, a refurbisher, or a software pre-installer that sells the Customer System(s) to a third party." A person who builds a computer for his own use or for friends and family is not a system builder as defined by the System Builder license. The correct license for these cases is Retail.
OEM keys are not-for-resale and may not be transferred to another computer. They may, however, be transferred with the computer if the computer is transferred to new ownership.
