install win 7 wont boot from disk with clean hd

Hi I have a older VAIO® Desktop Computer PCV-RS720G originally win XP. I have reinstalled win 7 a couple of times in the last 5 or 6 years with no

problems. Recently my sys was corrupted. So I decided to do a clean install. Prior to doing a "clean all" on the hd. I did many tests

chkdsk/f/r,sfc/scannow,startup repair in safe mode,boot.exe/fixboot,boot.exe/fixmbr etc.. So now I have a hd that I did a "clean all" on and win 7 install

disc. Boot in bios is set to 1. pioneer dvd-rw 2. floppy 3. hd. The pioneer dvd-rw worked Prior to clean all. Win 7 install disc tested on older acer win 7

laptop comes up to black screen with "Press any key to boot disk". When I put Win 7 install disc in the dvd-rw in the VAIO Desktop it shows the VAIO

logo then intel logo then black screen with the following "boot and select boot device. Insert media in selected device and press any key". Boot order in

bios should be good. I try it again the dvd makes a clicking noise 5 or 6 times (wont spin up) then floppy light goes on then computer just runs? In the

black screen "boot and select boot device. Insert media in selected device and press any key" there is no way to enter a command. Not sure what to do

from here. Any advise would be much appreciated THX frog88

You're probably going to need to boot something externally that will let you see the partitions on the hard-drive and mark Active the partition that Windows 7 uses to boot. It's either going to be System Reserved [or something very close to that name] or it's going to be what many call "C drive" which is really C partition.

You did a clean all on your disk, there won`t be anything on it now, it`s blank, there was no reason to do a clean all, a clean command is fine.

The clicking from your dvd drive means it`s probably shot, try an XP disc or any other OS disc you have to test it.

If it is shot then just setup a usb stick to install windows.

You`ll need a working PC and a 4 GB usb stick.

I agree with AddRam. Your DVD drive probably has a fail. Make a USB boot-able flash disk with the Win 7 ISO from the DVD disk or download one with SP1.

I do agree with RolandJS on this matter.
I did encountered on this Sony Vaio laptop.
Using Mini Tools Partition Wizard is giving a headache.
This partition wizard removed the 1st partition 100MB marked as boot.
Upon as what RolandJS mentioned, using the same partition wizard, then i notice that the boot was removed from the 1st partition, hence it will never start but stay on black & white screen.
This happen more than a week ago.
So sending back to the seller, he said that now the whole system failed, due to my doing.
Up to now, still waiting for to collect the Sony Vaio laptop.

Hence, you may have to re-install again.
This time, do take note on how Sony Vaio mark the boot, system, active, primary partition.
Ensure that the 1st partition is the 100MB with boot, system; stated.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try making a USB boot-able flash disk with the Win 7 ISO from the DVD
