Install Windows 7 in pure UEFI (problem with GOP)
Hey guys, I have been trying to install Windows 7 on my laptop in UEFI mode with GPT for hours without any success. I have an Acer laptop that came preinstalled with Windows 8, I upgraded it to Windows 10 and was using it for a while but I still don't like it and really wanted to switch back to 7 all that time, I did once, but I had to use Legacy mode and MBR disk. I did not like it much because the boot times were slow and for some reason I really want to use a system with UEFI and GPT disk scheme.
Long story short, when I create a bootable Windows 7 USB and boot from it in UEFI mode, I get the well known "Starting Windows" screen freeze/hang. After doing some research it seems that it is the trouble with the new GOP feature that UEFI uses, and indeed in my laptop I can see a Intel GOP listing in Main panel in BIOS/UEFI settings menu and from what I saw Windows 7 default drivers do not support GOP hence the reason why it hangs.
I have stumbled upon an article that explains how to inject drivers into install.wim and boot.wim images using DISM. I have added drivers using that method and even removed/disabled the standard driver vga.sys, that apparently causes the problem but unfortunately I with no success. It still freezes in startup but this time it freezes even before at "Windows is loading files...".
The ISO image I am using is an official MSDN image of Win 7.
So basically, I am asking maybe somebody has had this issue before and managed to solve it, and even if it is possible at all to install Win 7 in UEFI with GOP graphics card.
Thank you in advance!
P.S. Sorry for my English it's my second language.
