Win 7 Custom Install Crash
I haven't seen this described elsewhere, and I'm out of ideas.
Win7 Ultimate Edition bought on DVD from amazon.co.uk
I'm installing Win 7 Ultimate on my computer using Custom Install. Formatted 500GB HDD (7200 RPM) using Win 7 installer (previous install of WinXP was on a partitioned drive - current one is using a single partition).
The installer follows the normal pattern. After choosing the partitioned space to install on (there is only one primary, and one system that Win7 setup), it begins copying Win7 files, and expands them successfully. It then continues by installing, and restarts at the point where it should.
On restart I let it continue to load up win7 to finish installation. Win7 (after saying "Setup is updating registry settings"), it opens the Install Windows window and "Completing Installation" is bolded. After sometime it restarts yet again (without warning this time, but from videos this seesm to be normal). Before it loads up Win7 again it tells me that Windows shut down unexpectedly and asks me whether I want to start Windows Normally or in Safe Mode.
If I start Win7 in safe mode it tells me that installation cannot be continued. If I start it normally it brings up the following error message:
"The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered and unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, then restart the installation."
However, no matter what I do, restarting the installation or restarting windows, the installation will never complete.
The only other time that this error message has been quoted on web was related to a problem that resulted from the guy using partitions that were too small (80GBs apparently). However, with 500GB that should not be a problem.
It appears I've run across something that is very rare, and any help in resolving this issue is greatly appreciated.
If there are any questions, please let me know and I'll be glad to pass it on.
Thanks,
