Sony VGN-FZ140e win 7 Install problem

Hello All and thanks for all the great advice!

Well, my dilemma is that I can't install Windows 7 from ISO that has worked countless times on PC's and other lappies, the install states that i have a hardware problem but doesn't tell me what it is. This installation is for a neighbor of mine and he doesn't know jack about computers besides xp is better than vista and he hates vista with a passion. So he agreed to put windows 7 on this Sony Vaio VGN-FZ140E of his, only problem is that damn hardware problem during installation that makes the process go into an eternal intallation process loop. Phoenix bios version R0050J7 is crap since you can't change anything other than date, time, security, and boot sequence......crap. Anyhow, any advice would be great, I've search the net and this board.....little or no info on this particular problem let alone the installation of windows 7 on this lappy that came originally with vista home premium

    Thanks for your attention

    Ken

the underside of this lappy says that its a Sony PCG-384L also so I don't know which model applies

Did you try to do an in-place Upgrade or Custom clean install? From the desktop or booting the installer?

If you ran the installer from the Vista/XP desktop, try booting from it instead, format drive and install.

Be sure to back up his files, perhaps even an image backup so you can reimage and start over if necessary. Macrium free is a good image program.

Were there any error messages in this eternal installation loop you describe? When exactly does it happen and how does it manifest?

sorry about that, i am stupid to assume that every one knew that i how installed win7 .... It was from a clean install from a disk that I've used prior on other installs without glitches, I've repartitioned the 200 GB drive from the original lappy and formatted it before the clean install choosing the custom install option, thanks "gregrocker" for the interest, 40 views but not an answer or reply, it must be me, not posting the pertinent info, just on a side note, I've gotten the install loop to stop by putting an XP disk in and installed XP on the laptop, or rather is still installing....I did that to stop the WIN 7 installation looping of the restarting and rebooting into the same error message. I still want to install windows 7 on it though. I was thinking that I might just try to install or flash a better version of the dummy bios while its on XP and then attempt to install windows 7 again....any advice would be great.

    Regards

installation error loop just stated that windows 7 couldn't be installed, once there was mention of hardware issues but didn't state what it was; these errors occurred after the install while it was processing the "services", and yes I did back up my neighbors info, thanks for mentioning that, sometimes people do forget.

So i've somehow resolved the problem by killing the windows 7 installation loop by sticking in an XP boot installation disk and after upon installing windows xp went back to installing windows 7 from the same disk that gave me the installation loop error and the damned thing installed just dandy, and I'm using it to type this post! was it me? or something went down with the software, never had that problem before....well lads, thanks for your attention and efforts as well as your time

Sounds like you ran 7 installer successfully from XP?

Not seeing the exact error given made it hard for us to suggest, but it may well have been a missing SATA controller that needed to be inserted in Win7 installer to proceed - happens a lot.

Did you determine if it needed BIOS update by searching model product download page?

looked up the model for bios update, however, I didn't get anywhere with that...I thought that the boot disk installer for windows 7 came with SATA drivers and how in the heck did I get SATA drivers from xp if I deleted the partition from XP before I installed windows 7 from a boot disk with windows 7 on there? I don't understand it...if you've got something logical for an answer, I would love to hear it. Thanks Gregrocker!
