Windows XP to Windows 7 hangs at completing installatio

    Hi
I recently purchase a Windows 7 "upgrade' pack for my XP system. Despite following MS instructions and stripping my system to the bare minimum it always hangs on the second reboot just before 'completing installation'.
A manual reboot returns to the install screen and only after several hours does the progress bar move further to the right. Nothing then happens after 2 days.

I have upgraded bios and all drivers I can find on the AUStek support site.
    My system is:
    • Motherboard ASUS M2V-MX bios 1005 (latest non beta)
    • AMD Sempron 3600+ rev F2
    • Maxstor STM3160212a IDE master 160 Gb
    • RAM 1GB
    • PCI Express K8M890
    • USB Keyboard and mouse
I just don't know what to do next.
    Can anyone help please?

    Thanks

Did you run the WIn7 Upgrade Advisor? Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor[3]=Installation and Setup

See if you can find a PS2 keyboard and mouse.

If you have onboard graphics, default to them an disconnect your video card.

Try clearing the CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

Test your memory with Windows Memory Diagnostics, then your HD with Maxtor's diagnostics from their website.

    Thank you everyone.
i foudnthe problem why the Windows 7 would hang at installation.
While reformatting and reinstalling I had left the old dlink Network card in the motherboard. Windows 7 did not ahve driver for it and seems like hanging trying to find the driver.
I pulled the card out and installation went ok.
After booting up with OS then I reinstated the card and all is well now.
    Thanks for helping out

    Hi

I have tried all the above steps and still get exactly the same result.
    Any ideas?

I think my PC for some (unknown) reason is not quite compatible with Windows 7.

I even tried shift F10 to open system shell tried various options with Shutdown then back to 'completing installation...' screen which just stalls at about 80% of horizontal bar.

    Any help gratefully received...

    Chris

Are you booting from the DVD to do a Custom install using Drive Tools to delete all partitions, create New as you wish, then formatting before installing Win7 to first partition.

Where exactly does it hang up and what is the exact error text?

Fill in your System Specs, remove all but 2gb of RAM and all USB devices.
