    Dell OEM info x86 v. x64

So I work IT at my current workplace and I was wondering if I can install and use the Dell x64 disc on a machine that was purchased with an x86 installation. These are OEM discs.. I can just try it but would like to see if anyone knew about this.

    hope this isn't too confusing.

You will need to do a clean install, but as long as its a Dell, and hasnt already been activated on another computer, you should be ok...I think....

Well. I will give it a shot. Yes it is a Dell. I do these reinstalls with Dell hardware all the time, I've just never switched the architecture. They are all are 7 Professional so that shouldn't pose to be a problem. Any other thoughts before I waste my time?

As far as activation, with the Dell OEM, its almost like the installation can tell it is being installed on a Dell computer. Must have something to do with the Mobo. But they never really appear to activate. This is my experience with XP at least. We just starting buying machines with Win 7 license, so I'm pretty excited.
