    So I better understand...

You bought Win7 Home Premium from OfficeMax...
You bought a key for Win7 Ultimate (upgrade) from Ebay...
You want to upgrade from Win7 Home Premium to Ultimate and use the key...

If you are trying to use your Home Premium disc than it isn't possible as the disc will only install Home Premium. You could make an image of the disc, remove ei.cfg from the disc, and then reburn the image. This would give you a disc of Windows 7 that allows you to choose an edition.

As it currently stands you won't be able to use that disc to upgrade to Ultimate

And that's if that eBay key is even valid!

Yeah, not the best of ideas.... This could just be a blacklisted key, or a pirated one, or an already used one...

RobDanne - how much did this key cost? Can you post a link to the eBay seller?

    Hi Rob,

Are you saying you want to reinstall 7 , this time installing Ultimate - using the key you bought?

You can use the installation media you already have - but you need to delete the ei.cfg file from the sources folder.

To do that, you either need the paid version of PowerIso, MagicIso, or Ultraiso.

Pick up the 7 .iso, delete the ei.cfg file, then "save as", give it whatever name you like before the .iso extension, e.g. AllEdition.iso

Otherwise, put the 7 dvd in the drive, rt click , select Copy , rt click the desktop, select paste.

After the files are copied, delete ei.cfg.

Then make those files into an .iso and burn to dvd.

This shows how to make the .iso easily using a free app.

Bootable ISO - Easily Create from Installation Files

    Hope it helps.

As everyone else mentioned - are you sure the key is valid?
