Win 7 Windows Installer 5.0 Problem

    Hi,

    new to the forum etc.....

I have installed Win 7 x64. I suspect I have inadvertently deleted part of the Win Installer 5.0. It is not available as a separate download (only 4.5). I have been stuffing around for several days and have tried many, many things all to no avail. So, the installer could be in quite an indeterminate state.

Every time I try to install software (say Office or even the OS) the installation simply fails with setup has encountered n error after a few seconds.

I have backups from a month ago, but am unsure whether these had the problem.

Is there some way I can reinstall the Win 7 Win Installer 5.0.

Also in the services there was a Windows installer service, now there is an Instalator Windows service.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated - this is driving me insane.......

    Cheers,
    Kevin

Same here... can't attempt a reinstall since there's no 5.0 available to download yet.

Here's my thread in case you want to try the same (non-working) solutions I have.
