You want to install it on D I presume?

Any reaction to the suggestions in my previous post?

Just edited slightly my previous post.

Yes I'm currently in C: (Vista Boot) when the screen was created - I want Windows 7 in the other - D:

Before when I went into XP that was C: and Vista was D:

Not sure if this will still be the case with Windows 7 and Vista, presumably it will.

But yes I want to load Windows 7 into the empty 50Gb partition.

Googling reveals a corrupt disc = 0x80070017

Indeed that is often the problem. It may well be.

As it's retail, MS will send you a replacement. Or if you got it from a physical store - that's the place to get the replacement.

Because Im geeky, I would try extracting the Install .wim with Imagex anyway - just for fun.

I think there's a tutorial if you want to have a go.

Yes cheers - I will take it back tomorrow

There's always summat aint there?

Oh Well - at least I'm over the tricky part

BTW - are my partitions set correctly after reference to my above posts - will the installation correct anything that's not correct?

I mean I'm still not sure whether they both need to be Primary and/or Active lol!

Looks fine to me.

If you don't format D during install - 7 should add Vista to the boot menu automatically.

If you do format it - then you can add Vista to 7 bcd vey easily afterwards.

Let us know how you get on tomorrow.

Vista 64-Bit Ultimate & Seven 64-Bit Ultimate

Hi Guys

Success !!!!

My supplier swapped discs for me and actually noticed something on the original which I hadn't, a very small but deep small pit - he tried it in his machine and it woudn't read at all!

But everything went as expected and I now have Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit booting along nicely with my Vista Ultimate 64-bit.

At some point I am going to run out of space on the Windows 7 partition as it is more hungry drive-space-wise - nothing installed yet but have used 15.4Gb out of 50Gb !

I know it's because I'm using a 64-bit version, but still - that's a lot of space for the OS !

Obviously all I need to do when the time comes is to format the Vista Partition and then expand the Seven one - correct? Will this destroy the boot loader again? - if so can it be repaired via the Windows 7 DVD ?

But a big thank you to everyone on here who has helped me.

Cheers

Hi rozel,

That's good news.

It seems quite a lot of space being used up - did you try reducing the disk space used for retsore points (shadow copies).

System Protection - Change Disk Space Usage

You would need a 3rd party partition manager to delete the "system" partition - which, I assume , is on the Left in Disk Management and "merge" - in fact, it would shift all the data on 7 partition over to the left.

You would need to reconstruct the boot files - post back for advice on that when the time comes.
