2 different errors on win7 set up

    Hi all,

    let me explain my problem:

I downloaded win7 x64 and x86. i was in dubai last week and installed the x86 on my parents PC. works like a breeze and the installation couldnt have gone smoother.

I come back to melbourne and try the install on my PC and whether I run it through my current win7beta OS or whether i boot drom cd, both thr x64 and x86 give me error 0x80070241 around the 15% installation mark. after many attempts, i thought that i was perhaps because when doing a clean install, win7 doesnt let you do a full format but only a quick format.

so i got a friends PC and did a full format. x84 installed upto 50% and gave me error 0x80070570.

    what i've tried:

    -stripping all unneccesary hardware
    -reburning the iso
-reburning the iso at lower speed
-leaving on one chip of ram
    -praying

im considering getting a new HDD. some people traced this to asus motherboards but nothing solid yet.

    system:
    processor: Q9550
    mobo: asus p5q3
    ram: 4gb

    all suggestions welcome...

Try loading 7 install files into the root of a primary-formatted USB stick, exactly as they appear when exploring DVD, then rebooting, tapping F-key given on first screen for Boot Menu, selecting flash under hard drives, custom install with advanced tools to format again.

Check BIOS settings to see if SATA is set to AHCI.

Verify the ISO download with checksum from source.

Verify the burn by inserting DVD and running ImgBurn verify. Reburn at 4X with Verify. ImgBurn never fails.

    @ Jonathan King
didn't find anything of significance. Thanks though. I appreciate everyone trying their best. i cant get my head around the possibility that there isn't a solution...there always is! :)

    @gregrocker
i've set BIOS to AHCI, but most forums and solutions recommend IDE. Both these haven't worked for me.
ISO is fine and I've burned at 4x. My problem is that both the 32bit and 64bit give me the same error at the same time!
haven't tried the USB method yet. will try that next.

Googling your error code found this:

Windows cannot copy files required for installation. The files may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for the installation are available, and restart the installation. Error Code: 0x80070241
    Cause of the Error
The Windows Vista installation DVD comprises the setup files in a highly compressed form. Error code 0x80070241 is generated if one or more of these files on the DVD are corrupt or damaged.

Obtain a new copy of your installation media and reinstall as recommended..

    Hi Tews,

The error is not with the copy. the iso works fine on other computers..I get the same error with the 32bit and 64bit versions.

I've stripped all the unneccessary hardware, diabled everything not needed off the BIOS and I am left with my mobo (p5q3), video card (gainward geforce 9800GT), dvd (sata samsung) and HDD (segate 500gb). So my belief is that one of these are clashing with my installation. I'm gonna have to get my hands on a spare set of these to isolate the problem...i think its gonna be a very long process of trial and error.

a few times during my many attempts, i have got a different error code: 0x80070570 which also translates into the data corrupt message. this occured after i fully formated my hard drive.

im convinced its a hardware conflict. just have to find the conflict!

AHCI setting gives superior performance. IDE emulation compromises SATA performance. You have SATA drives, right?

You may need the AHCI driver from your mobo's Support Downloads page, or CD.

Add it into installer at Custom drive screen.

yea i have sata drives. i'll try the updated driver method.

    what i've tried so far:
-upgrade from windows 7 beta build 7100
    -clean install
-full format of hdd (not quick format)
    -disabling everything unneccessary from BIOS
    -reburning ISO
    -trying a different ISO
    -trying 32bit & 64bit
    -running 1 chip of RAM
-running 1 chip of RAM on 1st channel
-removing my SATA DVD and running from USB
    -mounting using Deamon tools
    -emulating IDE
-removing unneccessary hardware (DLINK wireless reciever, creative soundblaster audigy)

so i'm left with my p5q3, gainward 9800GT 1GB, samsung sata dvd, seagate 500gb and 2x2gb ram.

arrrggghhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this is frustrating. i cant belive that MS got beta right and messed up the final!

Test your memory using memtest 86 CD overnight. Isolate any bad sticks.

Run your manufacturer's HD diagnostics, located on the downloads page for your model: e.g. WD Data Lifeguard, Seagate Seatools, or use second-best Partition Wizard right click context menu Check File System and HD Surface Scan.
