    No Safe mode option?

    Hey guys,

I feel embaressed, after being a tech for 17+ years, I cannot find out WHY my Win7 install only has two options: "Start Recovery Console/Mode?" and "Start Windows Normally"...

WHERE THE HELL IS SAFE MODE?

Any help appreciated, I have tried searchin google and alot of other resources with no solution.

    Thanks!

    Press F8 on boot.
If you need, go into msconfig and change the option time under Boot.

    John,

While I appreciate the reply, there is obviously a problem...
There is no Safe Mode - Safe Mode w/ Networking, or even Last Known Good Config...
Simply adding the SAFE mode to MSCONFIG -- DOES NOT solve the original problem!

So how do I get these back, while pressing F8, is the question?

Stick with me, there is most definitely safe mode on Win7.
Go into Advanced System Settings and navigate to the Startup tab. Then set "Time to display Operating Systems" to about 10. You can later change this to fit your preference.
Reboot, and when it shows the screen, press F8.

I only come into safe mode on Win 7 if I shut down improperly.
-Shut down all open programs and press the reset button.
but then I still have the problem that I get the start up animation from Vista although I'm booting into WIN 7 and have no other OS installed on my PC. This is only a guess but could that be the reason why I get the safe mode choice when I make a forceful reboot?

Sometimes it's not the F8 key.

I didn't know what mine was, so I kept my fingers on F3 through F8.

I finally got Still don';t know exact F key that worked

I can give an explanation for that. When you only have 1 OS, by default, it doesn't show the list of OS's. To change that, see my post above. When you shutdown improperly, it goes into the advanced options for your OS. To access the advanced options without rebooting improperly, you need to see the list of OS's. From there, press F8 to get in.

It should not change. It is a Windows thing, not a BIOS thing.

Thanks a lot for the explanation. In fact it is very logic - and definitely better than my workaround LOL.
