    install hangs at completing installation

I attempted a windows 7 install on an x64 and x32 system several times with the same result. The Upgrade runs until the last stage and then hangs. I looked at the logs but didn't see any errors. All my systems are custom built using Vista ultimate OEM additions.
I was successful installing the software as a new install
    I updated all the drivers

    This was an Upgrade.

Hi jimk and welcome to the forums,

Can you fill in your system specs so we can help you better, it's the link on the bottom of your post. Is this a Upgrade install that you are having problems with or a fresh install?

Hi jimk and welcome to the forum!

    Here's a check list of what you can do make sure that there are no hardware conflicts during Windows 7 installations;

Unplug all USB devices (except keyboard and mouse)
Disconnect multi-monitor connections (just use the main connection)
Try/test different memory modules (one of the top reasons of faulty installations)
you could also lower your memory to 1 or 2GB if you have more than that
Check video cards (another culprit during installation)

    Cheers

    Hi Grtim,

I added the profile information and the operation was an upgrade.

    I followed the instructions.

I removed everything except the keyboard mouse and Ethernet connection.
The install hung at the last step. I waited for ten hours until I aborted the installation.

It's obviously has to do with the upgrade path. I always suggest clean install especially with Beta software . There's just no way of troubleshooting what part of the previous installation is hanging up the upgrade. And sometimes even if the upgrade is successful weird issues develop nonetheless.

    Windows 7 install hangs up

Based upon my web research, alot of the installation issues are being caused by video which, in my opinion is likely tied to older cards built and designed for DirectX 9.0c. Windows 7 of course is using DirectX 11. If you have onboard video, you may try removing your graphics card and installing on it. If you happen to have dual graphics cards, (ATI Crossfire or Nvidia SLI) you might want to remove one of the cards and install on just the one. Hope this helps!

Resolved : I had the same problem with the win 7 install hanging at the last stage and it would just sit there saying completing install for ever more.
It turns out the problem for me was that i had just installed a pci express sata card to give me extra sata ports, and it was this card causing the install to hang.
After removing it Win 7 installed perfectly so i just re plugged in the pci sata card after the install had completed.
    hope this helps you out.
