    Update Issue

Hi. i am running into a problem with the Windows 7 Beta update. There is a recent update i am sure most users got from Microsoft. It is "Update for Windows 7 Client Beta (KB963660). It is an update to fix issues w/ Media Player & Center where multimedia codecs are not functioning on or after March 15, 2009.

Now, i am not sure if this affects my computer or not if i do not install the update. i tried 5 times and each time it fails to update my computer. It installs, then reboots my machine, then after it will get to the "Configuring System" (or something like that on the boot screen) and stop at 70% completion. Then it would say it failed and would revert back to original configuration. I would like to have the most current updates on my computer. I was wondering if anyone ran into this issue and they resolved it.

Thanks to anyone who can shed some light on this issue.

Thanks for the reply. i have in fact seen this page before, and it says toward the bottom of the page that this applies to Windows 7 Beta. I am confused on the codec packs that expire in March. Did you (Jacee) have any problem installing this specific update or not?

I had the same problem and already solved.
If you activate your windows seven using replacing method, you have to rollback to original non-activated state, then install updates and using the official product ID to activate.

    Cool!

That's one more reason to make sure you're using a legit copy

Hmm, i never thought of that at all. Do these product keys expire? i would like to use this OS as long as possible without having an expiration date, at least until the official retail client comes out.

If i did use the replacing method, is it safe to use that after the updates were installed?

Downloaded the official Beta from M/S and activated with officially supplied code, no problem with updates.

Read the reasons or one of them is to try to find "wrong" copies.
