anyway, ye, to pass that you have to be able to boot windows 7 you are fine now.. if the same problem had occured whilst still having windows and linux.. you could get into a recoveyr mode and done bootrec /mbr
or possibly bootsect /fixmbr if still exists (think that was the vista only).
You see, even fi you had formatted your whole disk again, you still might be getting the problem as grub enters its entries into MBR (master boot record) which is reserved 1024 first sectors or so of a disk. pre Windows 7, windows and linux both would fight over this place say, so sometimes when things went wrong, you just have to clean it... cheeky manufacturing leads ot windows automatically booting and not linux then ;p
