Windows 7 won't boot or read on laptop

Hey, my friend has a Toshiba Satalite harman, it's about 3 months old, and has windows vista on it. We wanted to install windows 7 x64 ultimate on it and replace the god awful vista.

So we went out and bought 2 copies of Windows 7 x64, I installed on my desktop just fine, it was extremely slow, but it installed non-the less. We popped the windows 7 disc into his laptop, and tried to boot from the disc, and it was a no go, Vista came up asking to boot into safe mode, or last known good windows boot configuration.

Errr... thats not supposed to happen, on my PC, it just booted from the CD, and all was good. So, we decided to tried and boot into vista, and run the installation from the DVD rom as I have done this when I had the release canidate version of windows 7 x64 because it wouldn't boot on my machine then. And when I did that on my machine it worked just fine, loaded all the files, and then rebooted and started installing without having to boot from the CD.

However, this was not the case on my friends laptop, vista wouldn't even read the disc.... WHY? it reads ANY other disc just fine... So we tried using my CD since we both bought ultimate, and his machine still wouldn't read it, after trying for about 2 mins, it says to insert a disc....

I even went into the bios and changed the boot order to cdrom first to see if maybe there was a problem with choosing boot options by pressing F12, just in case ya know... same thing. The screen goes black for about 5 mins, then comes up with the option to safe mode, repair, or last know good configuration.

I'm stumped, any help would be greatly appriciated!

    Thanks

If the Vista is 32 bit you can't run a 64 bit installer from that environment.

Make the Vista recovery disks so you have the ability to restore to factory condition for resale and keep your Win7. Or you can order them from Toshiba in that rare event. Or make a backup image stored externally.

Then use DBAN to zero the HD completely. The will start the installer to load files.S

Select "Connect to Internet during Install" and plug ethernet to get driver/Updates during install>Custom install>Advanced drive tools to format drive before install.
