Can you access your boot popup menu? It may be disabled in your BIOS, but it is usually the F11 or F12 key during the POST. Can you manually boot from your optical drive?

Do you have a camcorder to record your PC booting into Windows then booting off a dvd and getting bootmgr is missing???

I just cannot get my head around it, maybe i've been staring at my monitor too long! :)

Yes, second that. The only think of other that user error is a bad optical drive. Or maybe a bad BIOS.

That would be best. You have have one of two possible problems:
    1) the computer is not booting from the right drive
    2) the boot manager is missing, in which case a Startup Repair should fix it.
