Windows 7: Installation freeze after setup files are loaded

Installation freeze after setup files are loaded

So I just built my new computer and fired up my Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit disc. The setup files load, the Windows logo video plays, the pretty blue screen with the flowers in the corner appears and my cursor has the rotating green circle indicating something is happening. Then the circle stops spinning and disappears. At this point it appears the installation freezes. Pressing any keys or moving the mouse does nothing. I have to restart the computer. Same thing happens. Any off-the-bat suggestions before I start troubleshooting hardware?

Here are my specs:
ASUS Rampage Extreme II M/B
Core i7 920 CPU cooled by Corsair H50
2x 1.5 TB SATA WD Green HDs
6GB Corsair Dominator RAM
1200w Ultra PS
ASUS Radeon 5770 1GB DDR5 video card

My hard drives are in a RAID configuration per the M/B controller and a mirror volume has been created on the disk. I have one IDE DVD rom drive (the only part of the computer that's not brand new) and one additional HD audio card installed. The system is stable in the BIOS.

Did you burn the Windows 7 DVD yourself?

Check the firmware on that older DVD drive to make sure it is up to date. Try another OD.

RAID arrays are a constant source of problems with Windows 7 installs. Can you instead set up AHCI, SATA or IDE?

Pull out all but one stick of RAM. Then swap that one.

Disconnect all USB devices, audio card.

I installed Windows 7 on a brand new HD yesterday. It stayed on that screen for a good 10 to 15 minutes. Then it proceeded accordingly.
On other computers, with older and slower HDs, it went through that stage almost immediately.
Your RAID configuration will probably complicate things further. I would wait a bit before restarting to see if it moves

Thanks for your replies. Before yanking hardware I re-attempted the installation and it proceeded past that screen without any trouble at all. I'm guessing that when I thought it was frozen it was actually detecting hardware or unpackaging files. Either way, I'm up and running. Thanks again!

vista 64 bit to windows 7

Am in the process of installing Windows 7 on a relatively new HP Pavilion with Vista Premium 64-bit. Am following the insturctions that came with the Window upgrade package form HP that tells me to touch nothing until the installation has complete. However, my computer appears to be frozen - am on about the third step of the installation. Help!

Have you backed up your data?

If so, you can consider booting the Windows 7 DVD to do a clean install (MS assured that all Upgrade Kits contain one). The DVD is driver complete, there should be a drivers/apps CD included to get your favorite apps, or they are avaialble on the webpage for your computer model.

If you cannot afford to lose data in a stalled In-Place Upgrade (which is an inferior install than can transfer corruption, btw) then I would call HP tech support as they are required by MS to provide support for these Upgrade kits.

Or start a new topic here with title which succinctly describes your issue to get the most help.
