black screen after first setup restart

Setup (win7 ultimate 64bit) went fine until its first restart, then it took 10 minutes or so from bios to black screen to login.

After login, everything is fine and smooth. Installed latest nvidia driver for 8800gt win7 64bit, installed antivirus and spybot s&d. restarted.

Again with the 10-minute-black screen. I can't have this.

I have winxp 32bit on the same hard drive but different partition.

I use two monitors but tried using just one and still have the same problem.

I have updated my bios (gigabyte motherboard), still have the same problem.

What is causing this problem? I'm not willing to upgrade/downgrade/change video card, motherboard, cpu or hard drives. Does not make any sense. I only want to try win7 since it's "faster" but I'm perfectly content with winxp sp3. Why is winxp not having this problem? geez.

Can anyone help or should I just give up on win7?

    Thanks,
    -Sen

Check Diagnostics>Performance log to see what is causing delay: Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Performance Information and Tools\Advanced Tools

System restore to before this started, then add those apps/driver listed back in one at a time with restore point and time to check performance after each.

Likely Video driver. Windows 7 installer/Updates should have the latest WHQL since MS paid bill to develop them, try any beta or Vista, then try Vista driver in Vista compatibility mode.

Could be AV. Suggest Avast free home for lightest weight least intrusive.

Only use the basic Spybot scan function, not realtime, internet or tea-timer. Restore to before install to reinstall if so.

Please make sure that Plug and Play OS is set to yes in the bios.

Where would I find plug and play os in bios? (I've never seen it)

This black-screen problem happens even before I install video card driver, antivirus or spybot s&d. I might try on another computer but I'm losing faith on win7 already...

Anyone has more ideas? could it be some bios settings? I have the latest bios (used @bios from gigabyte) and latest nvidia drivers... computer is fine with winxp so I'm not sure. Maybe my win7 iso is no good? but after waiting 10 minutes, win7 runs fine (until I restart again).

Hi and welcome to Windows 7 support forums.
The issue appears to be after the initial post, during startup you have an executable that the operating system chokes on. Does this issue persist through dula booting XP or whatever other operating system you have installed?
What version of windows 7 did you install? X86 or 64?

    Hi thanks for reply!

I had win xp 32bit but after installing win 7 (ultimate 64bit), I can no longer see boot to win xp (because of black screen?) because it goes directly to win 7.

After pressing F8, and waiting 10 minutes through black screen, it gave me menu to boot safe mode or normal etc.

Download and install EasyBCD in Win7, see if both OS's are correctly listed on front. If not, Add XP using the Add/Remove tab.

If you need help with it, post back a screenshot of EasyBCD front panel, using Snipping Tool in Start Menu, attaching file with paper clip in reply box.

I didn't have chance to copy the entire text...

Will either OS start now? If not:

Boot into the Win7 DVD Repair console and run Startup Repair 3 times, as it may have multiple issues to fix.

When you get into Win7, please post back a screenshot of front page of EasyBCD and your full Disk Management drive map, using Snipping Tool in Start Menu, attached using paper clip in reply box.
