Can't install Win7 when booting from Disk

I have a little problem I was wondering if someone has some suggestions to fix.
    Problem:
I have a D/R Win7 upgrade disk to install Win7. Have successfully installed Win7 from within XP, but wanted to reformat harddrive before install. So, I tried to boot from disk. I'm able to boot from disk, get long white bar at bottom of screen, but after that just get flowery screen and nothing else happens. My computer is a Dell 8300. I tried disk in my laptop, Dell, and was able to boot-install Win7 on that, so disk is okay.

Any help would be greatly appreciated for my computer knowledge is beginner/novice.

    Thanks,

    Hi and welcome

I have an 8300 as well. It might be either a video driver or BIOS upgrade.. It is after all a bit old

Is there an OS on it now? can yoou safe boot (F8)? Can you go into bios (F12/F2)?

Let me know I can always boot mine

Thanks for the reply. It has Win7 on it now, installed from with XP. The bios version is A07, and I can get into bios and safe mode.

Have you boot installed XP on it before?

Your BIOS update is current, but last one was 2004.

I believe that the older 2003 IDE controller is not known to Win7 installer, so that driver needs to be added into the installer from it's download page here: http://support.dell.com/support/down...IM_PNT_P4_8300

Unfortunately you are not getting to the Custom drive screen where Drivers can be added at the link, so it may require vLiting into the installer, recomposing the ISO and burning to DVD.

I just wanted to thank everyone for their replies and help. The problem is fixed. Solution was to wait 10-15 minutes then the DVD drive started to work and would proceed. Had to wait a few times for a while, while Win7 installed. Ol' well, can install Win7 and format drive now, YEAH!!
    Thanks,

    LOVING Win7!!!
