    Solved

I'm back from my New Year's vacation and I guess the new year brings good things because I fixed my problem! All I did was change the the connection from my monitor from DVI to VGA. Let me explain how I got to this point...
When I got home I saw that my refurbished hd had arrived from dell so I went ahead and replaced it. At first when I would turn on my computer, I would see a lot of vertical red lines so I tried the different PSU connections and found one that looked normal. The installation of the new refurbished hd took more than an hour. After 1hr30min the monitor looked black but I could hear that my computer was on. At this point I got the idea to change to VGA. I did and was able to see the Vista installation windows (refurbished hd came with vista btw). I was curious if I could now see Windows 7 on my original hd so I switched back to it and it did work. I no longer got those 2 black screens from before!
I'm still not sure if the problem was the monitor or the graphics card.
Anyone know how I can mark the thread as solved?

Was the problem the same as the one I warned you about a week ago in this post?

The symptoms you describe are often caused when the video card is first loaded and has an output other than the monitor, or there is a tv tuner card outputted differently. Do you have these?
    Congrats on getting it fixed.

Now save a Win7 backup image in a primary partition and externally so you never have to reinstall again, just reimage the HD or a replacement in 15 minutes.

    Enjoy Win7.
