Reinstalling windows 7

Can I reinstall windows 7 over itself. I installed linux in a different partiton(same drive). Something got missed up. No option to choose between linx and Windows.
Goes right into Linux..Deleted Linux parition.....Now I get bootmgr missing. Tried all kinds of fixes that I could find to do...nothing. So I can not start windows. Can I do a custom install from DVD so it recognizes my installed windows 7. And will it activate. I know I can do a clean install from xp, but again can I do I do a clean install from 7. Thanks

Claude

Yes you can, it will not be a problem. You may want to do a clean install, or you will surely have problems. You can use the upgrade dvd, for the clean install.
The upgrade DVD actually works very much like the full retail. Read some of the tutorials that we have on the subject. Anything that you do shoud be done after you make a system image of what you have now.

Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version

You can try to startup Windows 7 first by booting into the Windows 7 DVD Repair console, running Startup Repair repeatedly to see if it will start up.

At that point if you post back a screenshot of your full Disk Management map, we can advise you on more options, and you can test Windows 7 to see if there are any performance issues.

You did the right thing. To put it into simple language. An upgrade is an old car with a paint job and a tune up, looks new and wondeerful. A clean install is a new car. Which do you want?
