    boot off usb


    is there a way to install windows 7 ONTO a flash drive?

    Hello,

    USB Windows 7 Installation Key Drive - Create

    I had to format my flash drive from Fat32 to NTFS for it to work.

    no. i know how to install off usb. i want to boot off it. like you would with pendrive linux

    That's that was guide is. Installing windows 7 on a USB drive so you can boot from it.

    Or are you talking like, running windows 7 from a USB drive.

    MS spends a lot of effort to keep their OS's off of USB drives because we could carry them around to any computer.

    The only success ever reported on the web that I've seen is for XP and it is one of the more complicated tutorials.

    Someone stops by here about once a week to claim it can or has been done, but never have any proof.

    The USB is what blocks it, since you can IDE plug the same drive and its just another HD.

    Hm... I'm not sure. I know you could with XP.

    Windows 7 doesn't let you install on USB devices (externals, flash drives).

    Here's an article for running XP from one, though I can't imagine you'll find the answers you are looking for.
