The Win7 DVD installer has the exact same Repair console as the Repair CD.

Do you have a factory restore DVD which you created that you are referring to? A factory restore disk does not have the repair console which the Win7 DVD or Repair CD have, which are needed to repair Win7 when it will not start.

However the restore disk probably put those tools available by tapping F8 at bootup. Look there for "Repair My Computer."

Did the XP CD originally format the F: partition you shrunk?

Delete the XP partition in Win7 disk Management, reboot the XP CD to create a new partiiton there full-formatted NTFS

    You could try this:
Download and burn the partiton wozard boot disc for the future.
    Free Download Partition Wizard
Also when in Win7,download the desktop program, home edition.
Then open the home edition and make sure the partiton you are putting XP on is NTFS,Active and a Primary partiton, all which can be done by right clicking the partiton and using the options there.
Just remember to click apply after each change (bottom left)
    So RT click>Mark as Active>Apply
    RT Click>Makje Primary>Apply
    And so on

    Or start from scratch.
    Delete the XP partiton>apply
    RT click the Unallocated Space
    LT Click Create
    Make Primary/NTFS/Default Cluster Size/And give it a Drive letter>OK
When thats finished RT Click-Modify>Set as Active

The only thing i noticed from looking at your drive map was that it was not set as Primary or Active
