    W7 Starter Installation CD

Is it possible to request a W7 Starter Installation CD, as mine was pre-installed on my Toshiba NB-205?

If so, could you please give a direct link?

    Thanks!!

As far as I know these are an OEM only release, so it would be from Toshiba.

There may be a utility on your machine to burn your own disk, just RTM for details.

Every computer comes with a method of reinstalling the original factory specs. If you do not have a DVD, it is a combination of f keys to tap into the restore partition.

Instructions to create recovery discs are in this .pdf download - save it.

    User's Guide

    TOSHIBA Recovery Disc Creator
    To create a recovery DVD:
1 Connect an optional external writable optical drive.
2 Click Start, All Programs, TOSHIBA, Recovery, and then
    Recovery Disc Creator.
3 Select DVD (to create Recovery media on DVD).
4 Select the items you want to copy by clicking the check box
next to the item’s Name—recovery files, applications (original
bundled drivers and applications), or both the recovery files
    and applications.
    5 Click Create.
6 Insert the blank DVD into your optional external writable
    optical drive when prompted.
7 Follow the on-screen prompts for completing the copy process.
For more information on using the Recovery media you have
created with the preceding steps see “Restoring using the Recovery
    Media” on page 55.

If I got the CD that you specified SIW2, could I use it to follow this guide?

It depends if the "recovery disc" is actually an ms install disc with extra bundled apps. and drivers.

As Qdos says - you need a valid product key for the edition you wish to install, of course.

While those who bought Vista computers and qualified for manufacturer's Win7 Upgrade Kits are able to use a clean-copy Win7 DVD thanks to MS requirement for this of manufacturers, those who buy Win7 computers aren't so lucky.

They are in the same position as before where manufacturers enforce their sponsor's bloatware by refusing to provide a clean copy Win7 DVD, except rarely (Dell?). Some manufacturers won't even support clean reinstalls if the owner provides the clean-copy Win7 DVD to activate the OEM license stickerd to the computer.

Most tech enthusiasts get around this by locating a Win7 DVD, as any Win7 installer will activate with an OEM license, retail or not. Since sometimes only an installer of a different version is available, then their only choice is to unlock all versions by removing the ei.cfg file from Sources, recompile the ISO and burn to DVD, then select your licensed version during install. Bootable ISO - Create from Installation Files

There is nothing remotely illegal about this, as the owner does in fact own the license to use that version on that computer for the life of the computer. To insist they suffer with the inevitable corruption which bloatware inflicts, especially when uninstalled, is almost a Monty Python level of ridiculousness.

Just in case it is not clear, the title of the link you provided is a little misleading. A license key is meant for one version of Win 7. Be it starter or ultimate, that key will activate only the version it is for.

The link is so you will be able to install other version beside the one listed on the DVD. For instance, you obtain an Ultimate 32 bit version of Win 7. Your key is only good for a Starter version. You can use the link to create a DVD that will allow you to install the Starter version from an Ultimate DVD.

You cannot use your Starter key to activate an Ultimate version. Which is what gregrocker said, I think..
