Heellpppp!

I built a computer a few years ago and since I bought my mac it has been neglected, I have no idea what has happend to it but it won't load Vista which is the OS I originally installed on it, It died once so I had a friend Install Ubuntu however now 3 years on I would like to upgrade to windows 7. Because the Disk I have is an Upgrade disk I have to start with vista and then upgrade via that route. But every time I start up my computer I get this Error message.

Novell NetWare Ready Firmware v1.00 (030923)

Realtek RT8110SC Family Gigabit Ethernet MLID v 1.08 (04-03-06

?PL - ROM- ADR : 0050 8DC4 3602
?PL - ROM - IRQ : 5
?PL - ROM - PIO : CC00

?PL - ROM 0 FFC : 50 DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

Prior to this screen the bit where it says 50 disk boot failure etc it counts from 0- 50 very slowly

I have inserted both Vista & Seven but neither of which can I get working properly.

Help would be appreciated as I am a total Hethan regarding this type of thing because I use Mac OS 10 and it is easy!

Thanks Again

Henry

Stab in the dark. But has this PC been disconnected for quite a while from a power source. It sounds to me as if your cmos battery might have gone flat and now all the defaults have been loaded.

This basically means that its trying to boot from "LAN" and if memory serves me correctly "50 Disk boot failure" is a Floppy drive error which might mean that its trying to then boot from floppy. (I might be wrong here, as I said I can't quite remember --- getting old )

But I think the best thing to do is to first go in to the bios and check your "Boot" order, "Detect" your Drives etc.

Can you boot the Windows 7 DVD? Try tapping the key given for Boot Menu on first bootup screen. If absent, Enter BIOS setup to set DVD drive to boot first.

You don't need to reinstall Vista to Upgrade to Windows 7: Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version
