    Unspecified error

I downloaded the .exe for 7 Home Premium from the UK Ultimate Steal site. It says it's preparing setup1.box, but eventually it gives me an error message saying "Unspecified Error".

The .iso is equally annoying, I burned it to a DVD and tried to get my laptop to boot from the DVD drive. It waited a moment and then booted from the hard drive. I burned to a different DVD and attempted to boot from DVD drive, it did the same. I then tried to boot a DVD containing Ubuntu. This booted perfectly fine.

    So, can anyone help?

You may want to create a small partition and extract the contents of your ISO disc there.. Then run setup.exe from there... let us know how it goes... Good Luck!

Every time I attempt to extract the files from the .iso to the partition it stops responding and I have to force shutdown.

This is a reasonable indication that your downloaded source file is corrupt. I think you are observing a time-out error.

    A simple test:
Download the file set again. Burn it in "slow" mode. Attempt to install.

Have you checked the tutorials for making a bootable DVD from downloaded files, or making a bootable DVD?

Make bootable iso from student d/l[2]=General Tips
Bootable ISO - Create from an Older ISO[2]=General Tips

The .iso is easier, but it has to be bootable and it sounds like yours is not, or the DVD drive cannot read the burned DVD.

If you do burn one, do not use MagicISO....
