    Upgrade issues

I recently upgraded my laptop to Windows 7, with an upgrade CD from my manufacture. I'm haveing problems with my system not coming out of sleep mode and not restarting. I'm having to reset and start in safe mode to get it the restart.

Start over and do a clean install, it can be done with that DVD. If you are interested post back and we will tell you how it is done.

Go to BIOS, you can find out how by reading your computer manual. It is done by striking one of the f keys (ususlly 2 or 12) repeatedly during boot. In BIOS change the booting order from Hard Drive to CD/DVD. Turn off your computer, put DVD in drive and boot up. Follow instructions on the screen.

When you get to the screen asking for custom or upgrade, choose the advanced option. Format in that option, then choose custom install. Do not give your key number until you are all done. Make sure you uncheck the box that asks to activate automatically.

When done, install your programs. Then try if for up to 30 days. If satisfied, then activate.

Note, You have to reinstall all of your prgrams and you must save everything else like documents etc. You can make it easy by using windows easy transfer, found on the MS site.
Do not forget to back everything up before you start. We never know what will happen.

    Good luck

Thanks for the advice, does it matter that my upgrade DVD is from the Manufacture of the laptop. Is this upgrade DVD a full version of Windows 7? Will what you are suggesting work with this DVD

I think yes, but to be sure you have no problems. Download the free Paragon software or use System Image which is part of Windows 7 and make an image on a separate hard drive. Anything goes wrong just restore and you are as good as you are now.

Did your Upgrade kit come with a DVD clean copy of Win7, and a drivers/apps CD?

If so, then you can boot the DVD as given, select Custom install, use Advanced drive tools to delete all partitions, create New one(s) as you wish, then format before installing to first partition.

The installer is mostly driver-complete, with more coming on on Windows Updates after install. Any drivers then missing in Device Manager can be loaded from your Drivers/Apps disk, along with any favorite apps. Others can be found on the manufacturer's Support Download page for your computer model.

The CD i received is from ACER. It came with one with driver updates plus a Windows 7 DVD. How can I tell if this is a full version?

Make a system image of what you have, put it on an external hard drive. Then try to restore with the DVD. If things go bad, just restore from the image that you had. You cannot lose.
