Windows 7: Installing Windows 7 on an Amilo Xi2528

Installing Windows 7 on an Amilo Xi2528

Just thought I'd share this as it took me while to locate everything to do this.

This applies to a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Xi 2528 - you can probably figure out how to get the correct drivers for other Amilo models from this information.

Installing Windows 7 onto an Amilo requires SATA drivers to enable the installation process to see the hard drives - otherwise you wont see any at all.

When installing, you are given the option to browse for the correct drivers, and if you put the correct drivers onto a USB flash drive - either before installation, or during (using another computer) you can locate them during the install and you'll then be able to see the hard disks, and choose where you want to install to.

I previously posted this in an Amilo forum, so I'll just c&p it here:

=======================
I found the correct drivers here:
ftp://driver.jmicron.com.tw/jmb36x/XP_Vista_Win7/

I downloaded this particular file (this was the only one with Windows 7 in the title - although there was one called Windows 7 eSata, but that's for external sata drives):
JMB36X_WinDrv_R1.17.47WHQL_WIN7.zip

Unzipped it all onto a USB flash drive, then when Windows 7 installation asked where to browse to, I browsed to this directory on the USB stick:
JMB36X_WinDrv_R1.17.47WHQL_WIN7\R1.17.47.14\Driver\x32

I don't know if all of this information will apply to every Xi2528 model but it works for me, and I hope it works for you too.

I've also made the zip file available here, for your convenience:
http://curtjackson.co.uk/files/JMB36X_W ... L_WIN7.zip

Cheerio.

Thank you so much Curt.

You saved my laptop from reboot loop hell. While attempting to upgrade to 7 it failed and the MS remedies would not work as the Repair function couldn't see any of the hard drives ... until i used the drivers you posted.

Cheers!

Windows Vista x86

Not only do I find a possible solution, but it's even for my exact laptop model, thank you!

I'm trying to install from a USB-drive and booting works but the only HDD shown in the list for a clean install is the USB one. When i choose to browse for drivers the computer shows the USB-drive (C), the DVD (D) and Boot (X) which is my HDD with Vista currently installed on it and not the one I'm booting from!

I'll try adding the SATA drivers to the USB drive and browse for them, hope it works!

Great! Glad I could help.

Don't suppose you've managed to get the webcam working - everything else is working well, but the webcam just fails without error.

The drivers did solve my installation problem, so thanks again for that!

I seem to have the same problem as you with the webcam. I think the same thing happened when I did a clean install of Vista last year, I eventually found some driver on the net that solved it.

I'll see what I can do, let me know if you make any progress.

OS X, WIN7

I did get forward in installing thanks to curtjīs tutorial. This time I see about 5 partitions made from the two hard drives (what can I do with these to get just one partition per hard drive? Just delete the excess ones?). I formatted them all and selected the one I wanted to install Windows 7 to. It installs normally until the first boot. In the first boot windows encounters a problem:

File: \Windows\system32\DRIVERS\jraid.sys
Status: 0xc0000359
Info: Windows failed to load because a critical system system driver is missing, or corrupt.

I have tried again and again but itīs always the same problem.
And when in the installation process I choose to browse my own drive in order to install the drivers curtj mentioned, I get four different options when I open the \R1.17.47.14\Driver\x32 - directory from my USB-drive:

JMicron JMB36X Controller (C:\R1.17.47.14\Driver\x32\jraid_i.inf)
JMicron JMB36X Controller (C:\R1.17.47.14\Driver\x32\jraid_i.inf)
JMicron JMB36X Controller (C:\R1.17.47.14\Driver\x32\jraid_i.inf) (x64)
JMicron JMB36X Controller (C:\R1.17.47.14\Driver\x32\jraid_i.inf) (x64)

*[x] Hide drivers that are not compatible with hardware on this computer*

Which one am I supposed to choose?
Once I have chosen one of those, the computer notifies:
"To continue installation, use the Load Driver option to install 32-bit abd signed 64-bit drovers. Installing an unsigned 64-bit device driver is not supported and might result in an unusable Windows installation."
Despite this, all the partitions show up, so I guess it still works..?

And in the beginning of the installation, will I choose to install x64 or x86?

I followed your instructions and managed to instal Windows 7 - 64 bit on my xi-2528 and found almost every devices' drivers. I had to install drivers for two devices manually but I cannot find the PCI memory controller drivers for my laptop. Have you encountered the same problem and solved it with yours? Thanks in advance for answering.

Thanks for answer. Fujitsu Siemens doesn't provide any drivers for the PCI Memory Controller for O/S Windows 7(64bit). I was wondering if anyone found another solution.
