Reinstall Win7 & Office OEM questions

Hi,

I recently upgraded a Vista installation to Windows 7 using a retail Upgrade Windows 7.
However, as I keep having neworking problems which can't seem to be fixed,
I'd like to do a custom (clean) re-install of Windows 7.
This implies I will also need to reinstall Office 2007, which is an OEM version that came pre-installed on the (Vista) PC when I bought it (I do have the installation media, of course).

The question is the following: will I be able to re-install and activate this OEM Office 2007? Or is this not possible with an OEM version on a different OS it was originally installed on?

Many thanks for your help...

OEM is tied to the hardware...you should be able to activate it with no issues (as long as you have had no major hardware change)

If not just call the number that will show up on the failed activation window for Office and either the automated system or the customer service agent will activate it for you

No worries!

I believe Tom that even with an OEM Office the key will still come with it...

That was the case for my 2003 copy but things may have changed

Hello guys,

Thanks for your support.

Yes, I do have the key. It comes together with the installation disc.

So I understand that it is tied to the hardware and not to the OS it was installed on?
The only hardware change I had was the replacement of a failing optical drive, so I guess that should be OK.

Just wanted to update this post since Microsoft has now offered their Office products online for download specifically for OEM installs. You will need your key. Instructions for how to do it are here: Reinstall Microsoft Office 2007/2010 That Came With Your PC…Without the Disc | TechMemos.com
