Windows Easy transfer questions with XP

Upgrading from XP Pro to Win 7 Pro...will be clean install on new drive. I ran Windows Easy Transfer but have some questions...couldn't find a WET help file and/or any info on Microsoft site.

When running WET ( XP to Win 7 version) on old system ( nothing done yet with Windows 7 ) you get the default copy files/folders screen with the default folders/files checked. However...if you click on advanced...I noticed that some folders are not checked....specifically three folders in Documents and Settings:

Only User (Administrator) / Local Settings folder

Only User (Administrator) / Application Data folder

and in regular C: directory - the Program Files folder

I understand that 'programs' will not be transferred...but it seems there's lots of stuff in these individual program folders that contain info/settings etc for that specific program ?

Mostly concerned about Local Settings and Application data noot being checked by default ? Is there any harm in checking these before saving...and/or any other unchecked folders that may appear ?

Also...I thought you get a list of files/folders saved after running WET...but if it's there...I have missed it ?

Saving to an external hard drive via usb

Thanks, Tim

p.s. if there is a Microsoft site/page that explains the use of checking/unchecking specific folders...please post flink for me...

Sorry I do not know for sure, but there is no Documents and Settings folder in Win 7, possibly that is why you are seeing what you are.

As far as the files backed up, you might click on the custom button, I believe, to see which folders will be backed up. I saw once, when backing to an external drive, the external drive was also backed up in the new folder. So it might be a good idea to check the backup prior to backing up.
