So is all of this saying that tho I CAN do this, if I did NOT and did a clean install instead that the computer would be legions faster, even tho I am quite happy with the wonder performance I have now??
Actually, I was trying to say the opposite. Upgrading the RC is worth it based on what many have reported so far. You can later do the clean install if not satisfied with performance.

But how I determine if my Gateway MX6920 can use 64bit vs. 32??

Unless you plan on upgrading your laptop I would stick with 32bit.

    Thanks to everyone!!!

I went ahead with the 32 bit following the direction I received here and everything worked perfectly. How often has THAT happened. This forum is just wonderful!! A REAL time saver!!

Download and run System Information for Windows (no install required). It will give you a lot of info about your CPU. For example, mine shows as this:

Did you do the in-place Upgrade from RC, or a clean install?

    How is performance so far?

I did the inplace, not clean, and it is flying!! Still having the video driver crap out occasionally so will need to find an updated one for Win7; apparently the install did not fix this problem.

Jim - Glad the in-place of RC worked so well for you. This is one of the big surprises with Win7 release.

Check the video card connections, and all drivers for Vista and Win7 (including beta) listed on manufacturer's Support Downloads page for your model. You can roll back drivers on the Driver tab in Device Manager Display adapter, all installed drivers are stored in the Update Driver button there, selecting Browse and then Let Me Choose.

    Win7 video driver

This is a laptop. If I pop in the old drive with Vista, the video is fine. With Win7, tho, it drops out now and then. I will keep looking for a newer driver since alot of these Intel graphics cards were put in laptops.
