Windows 7: Windows 7 Wont Install

Ok so i have tried on several occasions to install windows 7 and this is how it goes. So i get to the first restart and it restarts like its sapposed to then it loads back up again and does its installing and once i get to the second restart it does its count down thing to restart and it freezes when it try's to restart. I have tried to manualy restart it at that point and it loads and goes to finishing installation and i let it sit there all night last night from 1am till 11:30 this morning and nothing happened. i am trying to figure out why it wont restart on its own and why it wont finish installation. I am currently using windows XP SP3 i did the clean installation i have tried everything any advice would be good thanks.

OK so i looked at what you linked and it doesn't seem to help me in any way i don't not understand why it wont do the restart the second time and i am very frustrated.

It's not clear where you are now at. Are you trying to dual boot? Did it roll back ?

If it did - or if you are able to boot into XP - look on the 7 partition in ~bt\Sources\Rollback , or .~bt\Sources\Panther check the last entries in the setupact and setuperr logs. They should say what stopped it.


If you are stuck and unable to boot into anything right now, you could try this:

Boot the 7 dvd ( select Repair My Computer instead of Install Now) - it might attempt automatic startup repair. If not, after it has searched for installations , click Next and select startup repair. If it says it was successful - then restart, and if necessary, select windows 7 from the boot menu.

If that is not successful - and you can't boot into anything:[ and if you are trying to dual boot and still have XP installed]

Boot 7 dvd to Repair My Computer - this time, select the command prompt, type

bootsect /nt52 all

then press enter . close cmd prompt. Restart. You should then be able to boot into XP.

Well it did the same thing this time to rolled back on its own i looked in the windows 7 fold and i do not see what you posted for me to look at i can not find it i tried unplugging everything i dont need and am only using 1g of ram now and it still did that same thing. if you mean dual boot like i have windows xp installed and i am trying to install windows 7 also yes i am my friend got windows 7 and did the dual boot and everything worked good for him. i flashed my bois but once it was done flasing it said bad check sum now and i really dont know what is going on with my computer but i am about done trying to install this its very frustrating for me.

If you got a bad checksum on a BIOS flash you may have fouled things up badly and need a new motherboard or EPROM chip.

Bad advice to flash the BIOS unnecessarily.

Take a few deep breaths and rewrite it so it is more understandable. Try some punctuation and capitalization.

Ok so i installed using the recommendation that i use only what i necessary, 1 Stick of ram,Cd Drive, HD, Everything else was unplugged. I did a clean install. Everything went well all the way up to the first restart. So it restarted and continued the installation process got to 100% on windows installation did the updates and tried to restart and second time and it still froze.

So i manually restarted it and it went to finishing installation and got stuck there and did nothing i waited for like 30 mins and yet still nothing. So yet again i manually restarted again and and it went to the restoring old windows and now i am back here. Also i looked in the windows 7 partition and i could not find the file's listed by SIW2 and i could not find these files.

I installed windows 7 before and after i flashed the bios and nothing. The only other option that was posted is to run a memtest and see what happens. windows 7 compatibility test said that my computer can run this OS so all suggestions welcome.

Do you have a tv tuner card or a video card which outputs elsewhere. This often happens at that stage when it loads the cards and they are outputting to other than the monitor.
