Question about Windows.Old and uninstalling 7

When the install failed on a laptop it told me so and rolled back the changes, leaving me with it in the exact state it was before I stated installing seven, programs and all.

Is there any way to trigger this to occur? I'm sure there will be as it was such a useful feature in the installation process.

    Hello Tarks,

You may be able to using this link from Microsoft if you still have the C:\Windows.old folder, but I would recommend that you backup anything that you do not want to lose first to be safe.

How to restore a computer to a previous Windows installation after you install Windows Vista

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

The roll back option is the "roll back setup" option available before any actual and final changes are made only seen when first running the installer.

For most running a laptop the option of first shrinking down the XP primary to make room for a second new one created for 7 to go on would see a dual boot where you can simply nuke the 7 primary later leaving XP intact. You would want at least 25-30gb of drive space available for that maybe more depending on how many programs you end up installing.
