"Fatal System Error" when installing Windows 7

Hello, I am new to this forum and hope you guys can help me out with my issue, any help is appreciated. Now, the problem that I am having is that I am trying to install a RTM version of Windows 7 Ultimate onto my pc, and the installation seems to go well but when it gets to the finalizing stage after I put in my new username and it successfully activates the key, the computer reboots and i get the following error:

Stop: C000021a{Fatal System Error}
The initial session process or system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x00000001 (0xc0000001 0x0010038c). The system has shut down.

Now what's odd about this whole thing is that I was and am running Windows 7 Build 7100 and did not have any problem installing Build 7100. And I was also able to install the RTM Windows 7 on a laptop with no problem, so I know it's not a problem with the DVD. I only get a problem when I try to install it onto my pc. I have a Gateway FX530S, 2GB of Ram, and am running Windows 7 Build 7100...

Any help will be appreciated. I really want to get the RTM Windows 7 installed because my 7100 Build expires in March.

Are you using separate keys for the two installs? I never enter a key until I see if it is running OK. Just do not enter a key and uncheck the activate while online and you will have 30 days to check the install.

How are you installing the RTM on the desktop--a custom install?

Thanks for the quick reply, I do not enter a key...it does it automatically, I unchecked the "activate when I'm online" box. And then a cmd window opens up and that's where the activation occurs, on its own. It did the same with the laptop and there was no problem. And since my first post I was able to install it onto another pc, with no problem. And with all the installs, I have done a clean install.

If you don't enter a key, you are in an area unfamiliar to me, but it looks like that is not the problem anyway.

You are not trying to upgrade on top of the 7100 OS are you?

My first thought would be a video driver problem, but it might be something else. Are you using dual monitors or have any external devices plugged into your system?

There are some tutorials here about install problems similar to yours and what you might try.

Hi, first off thanks again, umm...I am not doing an upgrade off of 7100, I'm just simply trying to do a clean install. And I don't have any devices plugged in, except for my wireless mouse & keyboard...no dual monitors either. Now the video driver problem, sounds interesting, because I was having problems with my video card, but they seem to have gone away...and what confuses me is that I am able to install 7100 with no problem whatsoever. I have a question, do u think it might be any different if I was to go back to Vista (the original OS of my CPU) and try to do the clean install of Windows 7 RTM from there??

Are you booting the installer or running it from RC?

Do you still have RC on there? Because quite a few have reported fine performance after in-place upgrading RC using this workaround: Upgrade the Windows 7 RC to any retail version Icrontic Tech

I don't think putting Vista back on to launch the install would be any better than running Setup from RC.

I'm am booting the installer for a dvd...and i still do have RC 7100 on my pc. I'll try upgrading from it then and see how that turns out. I just wanted to do a clean install cause I figured it would be better off to start off fresh.. Thanks
