Hello everyone!
Thanks for checking my post and I will really appreciate any comments which will help me set up my new computer. I just want to add that I do not have a very good computer knowledge, but so far I've managed to deal with all the issues I had. Yet, on this one I definitely need help.
So here is the problem:
I want to install Windows 7 for the first time and set up 4 RAID 1 configurations - which means having 8 HDDs. In addition I want to use one more HDD for a System disk. For that purpose I bought MB with 10 SATA ports controlled by three different SATA controllers - Intel (6 ports), GB SATA2 (2 ports) and Marvell (2 ports) (
GA-X58A-UD3R (rev. 1.0) - GIGABYTE - Product - Motherboard - Overview - this is a link to the MB for reference). Here is how I want to install the HDDs:
1.The system HDD goes to port 0 (Intel controller)
2.First RAID 1 goes to ports 2 and 3 (Intel controller)
3.Second RAID 1 goes to ports 4 and 5 (Intel controller)
4.Third RAID 1 goes to ports 6 and 7 (Marvell controller)
5. Fourth RAID 1 goes to ports 8 and 9 (GB SATA2 controller)
So the things I am not sure how to proceed with are:
1.Once i enable the Intel controller mode to RAID, can I install Windows 7 on the single HDD that I am planning on using? In other words, can a single HDD work on SATA Controller that is set to RAID?
2.If I leave it at default (I think is IDE) and install Windows 7 can I set up the 2 RAID configurations that I want to have on the Intel controller after Windows installation?
3.If before installing Windows 7 I enable all the RAID controllers in RAID BIOS (if possible, still not sure), is is going to ask me for all RAID
drivers during windows install, or I can add them after windows install and then go to RAID BIOS again to configure the RAID arrays?
4.Just to add - I want to configure the RAIDs under RAID BIOS (I do not want to do software RAID)!
Once again thanks for the help, sorry that my post is pretty long, but i tried to be as clear as possible,
Best
Boris
