Installing W7, Final Panic - Help! Hi all,
Trust you to carry me through this
Tomorrow, I plan to install Windows 7 as dual boot. You can see what I have in the spec's. I have a Dell XPS720 with Vista X86 Raid 0 and will install a retail Windows 7 64 bit on a SSD. I must get it working tomorrow.
All advice based on your experience is most welcome.

One thing to keep in mind is....
If something happens to the Stripe, you may not be able to boot 7 either as the boot loader will be held there and not the SSD drive. A startup repair might fix the issue. Maybe.
What I can tell you is,,,,,,,, 7 far exceeds Vista in everything (and I liked Vista). So, if you like Vista, you will like 7 more.
So, you may just want to bite the bullet and backup your data and load 7 and get rid of Vista.
If everything you have works in Vista, it will work in 7.
Just my opinion. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Self Built OS Win 7 Ultimate 32bit CPU C2D E6600 2.4Ghz Motherboard Intel D965WH Memory 4G Kingston KHX5400D2 Graphics Card EVGA GTX 570 HD SC (012-P3-1573-KR) Sound Card On-Board Monitor(s) Displays Samsung 226BW Screen Resolution 1680 x 1050 PSU Corsair TX750W Case In-Win C589 Cooling Stock Intel Cooling Hard Drives 2 x 250 Seagate Barracuda

Just my opinion. Thanks, now I feel much calmer
Made all backups I can, including an extra copy of bcd. Right in the start, I only need to get Windows 7 working with basic functionality, keyboard, mouse, internet and similar. Windows 7 is initially for Photoshop CS4. I am taking a university course over the internet; it started previous week so I am already behind. Will install PS on Windows 7. Later other stuff. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell XPS720 OS Windows Seven Ultimate 64bit + Vista Ultimate 32bit SP2 Dual Boot CPU Intel Quad Q6600 2.40GHz Motherboard Dell 0YU822, NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI SPP / SLI MCP Memory 4GB DDR2 800MHz Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB Sound Card Creative SB X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Monitor(s) Displays Dell 2407WFP-HC Screen Resolution 1920 x 1200 Keyboard Logitech MX 3200 Mouse Logitech MX 3200 Laser Hard Drives NVIDIA 640GB SATA Raid 0 (2x320GB) (7200 rpm) for Vista,

They tend to check the computer to make sure you do not download anything outside of the spec's you purchased. I have managed to download a number of things, can only hope it is enough and the right stuff. The netwok driver for your card in case 7 doesn't find it .
ALSO IN CASE YOU NEED DRIVERS AFTERWARDS, THIS MAY HELP. Hi go Here and it will check your machine for missing drivers, in case you are missing some. Follow the instructions, and when it does it's scan, press the green button, bottom left of picture and install whatever it has for you, this might help with your problem. http://www.ma-config.com/ | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Self Build 64bit OS Vista Ult64, Win7600 CPU Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2400 MHz 64bit OS Motherboard Asus P5E3 Deluxe WiFi @p 64 bit OS Memory 4096 MB DDR3-SDRAM Graphics Card ATI Radeon HD 3870 Series x2 Crossfired Sound Card Realtek on board Monitor(s) Displays Samsung SyncMaster - 23 inches Screen Resolution 1680x1050 pixels at 60 Hz in True Colors Keyboard Wireless Mouse Wireless PSU Cooler Master 1000w Case Cooler Master Cosmos 1000. I guess there might be an exception,.,, and I don't want to alarm you. Or panic you again....
But,,, you might want to read through some of this before taking the plunge,,,, milage of course varies greatly with anything.... Some people don't have any problems, while others do,,, but research this first.... and take some of it with a grain of salt. Better to know what you might be getting into before you do. Search Results for Adobe Photoshop CS4
