Upgrad Vista to Win7 & OS in seperate 32.2 GB partion My system has a separate partion for the OS of 32.2 GB with 10.9 GB of free space. I have separate partions for Programs & for Data.
I will be using a Windows 7 Ultimate ISO DVD as my Win 7 source.
Can I do an upgrade so as to keep my programs without the need to reinstall them as with a clean install? | My System Specs |

With a new system, you will need to reinstall all your programs. There is no way around it because programs are not only "program files" but a lot more such as registry settings, etc.
But your data folders, if they are in a seperate partion, you can just "include" into the Windows 7 libraries. That is the easiest course of action.
32GB for an OS is tight but will work if you take some precautions (control the shadowstorage, eliminate the hibernation file, etc.). My Windows 7 32bit is 15.4GB right now and I have quite a few programs installed. My 64bit Windows 7 is about 5GBs bigger. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP, Dell, Gateway, Toshiba - 4 laptops and 2 desktops OS Vista, Windows7, Mint Mate, Zorin, Windows 8 CPU from 1.6GHz Duo to i7 Monitor(s) Displays 2x HP w2207 Keyboard with trackball - no mices Mouse Trackball mice Hard Drives 5x HDD, 7x SSD, 12x Externals Internet Speed DSL 6000 |

Re:"With a new system, you will need to reinstall all your programs. There is no way around it because programs are not only "program files" but a lot more such as registry settings, etc." What do you mean by a new system?
If I were to back & save my registry in my Data partion Backups folder could I later merge it with the new Win 7 registry in order to have my programs work OK? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Toshiba Satellite A505 and Self Built PC OS Windows 7 Ultimate 64 and 32 bit CPU Intel i3 330 and AMD Phenom X4 nnn Motherboard Unknown and GigaBit Memory 4 GB and 3 GB Hard Drives 500 GB and 2x 320 GB |

Sorry, but this will not at all work. Besides, you never said what your "old" system was. And we are not only registry, that was just an e.g.. You would make quite a mess importing a registry from another system though. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP, Dell, Gateway, Toshiba - 4 laptops and 2 desktops OS Vista, Windows7, Mint Mate, Zorin, Windows 8 CPU from 1.6GHz Duo to i7 Monitor(s) Displays 2x HP w2207 Keyboard with trackball - no mices Mouse Trackball mice Hard Drives 5x HDD, 7x SSD, 12x Externals Internet Speed DSL 6000 Upgrad Vista to Win7 & OS in seperate 32.2 GB partion problems?
