Hope this does not sound like a dumb question, but how do you install Windows 7 in safe mode? Does it offer some kind of option? Or do I press a key combination to do that? Another thing, is this option available both in upgrade and clean install?

Read he entire thread, and you'll see Orbital Shark's step by step post (#7 or 8, I think) on how to do that.

Zay, Fire up the 'puter with the CD in place.

As it boots you should get the "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD"

As that message disappears, hit F8.

If that doesn't work, as the message goes away, hit F5 THEN F8.

Either way you should now be presented with your DOS based options for the various safe mode boot into windows choices.

Hit safe mode and your installation will continue. HTH!

Well try this one on for size..

I installed Windows 7 this morning, and had to run out for awhile. Come back to see that my laptop was black. Soon discovered that the power supply to my laptop had dropped out, (must of accidentally pulled it out when I left somehow).

Now all that happens is that my laptop constantly reboots..

"Setup is preparing your computer for first use"

Then changes by itself to

"Setup will continue after restarting your computer"

And loop...

Put the Install CD/DVD back in your drive. As it reboots it should ask you to press any key to start from that drive. Should stop the loop. Restart the install again and do the quick format. HTH

Thx, but I only wish for it to be that simply.

Install CD is in the drive, but no such request.

Just loops..

Hi GuruGod and welcome to Windows 7 Forums

Simply leave the disk in the drive and power down your laptop. Wait a short while (30 secs) and then power it back up. You should be able to start the installation from the beginning again. Unless you are certain that you can install an OS without any problems, you should not leave it unattended, particularly if it is the first time you have tried to install that OS.

Still not getting any prompt to install. Just the same loop.

"Starting Windows"

Blank screen

Then the loop.

Have you set the DVD as the first boot option in the Bios?
