    Dual Boot Two HDs w/ Win 7 & Win XP

    Hello forum,
    Having already installed Win XP Home 32bit (500Gb drive) in my pc, I decided to install Win 7 Ultimate 64bit on a second drive ( 1,5Tb ) with the XP drive disconnected.
    Since then, I alternate boot to 7 or XP from bios -1st boot divice-.
    I have tried the EasyBCD ver 2.0 & beta with no success.
    It will be helpful, if anybody posts any advice how to modify the boot manager without having to format any of my two OS. :)

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi theog,
    a) Using the EasyBCD had no success because when I had selected the XP, my pc was trying to boot with Blank screen doing nothing for several minutes, forcing me to boot from bios again.
    b) Again I do not want to format any of my 7 or XP. If I have to, I will choose 7 because XP is an old installation.
    c) Is there any way to modify the bcdedit of Win 7 to boot to XP? Remember I have two different hard drives.
    Thanks for your reply.

    Yes I used EasyBCD 2.0 build 63 & 79 in win 7.
    My boot manager looks like this:

    Διαχείριση εκκίνησης των Windows (STARTUP)
    --------------------------------
    αναγνωριστικό {bootmgr} (IDENTIFIER)
    device partition=C:
    path \bootmgr
    description Windows Boot Manager
    locale el-GR
    inherit {globalsettings}
    default {current}

    displayorder {current}

    timeout 0

    Πρόγραμμα φόρτωσης εκκίνησης των Windows

    You need to boot into Win 7 and run the 79 build from there. Since the device for XP shows E:, something is not quite right. You will probably need to remove the current entry and re-do.

    The {ntldr} entry will probably show boot for a device. I know EasyBCD version 2 build 79 works, so be patient and make sure you have the Windows 7 drive set to boot first.

    You might post your Disk Management window using the snipping tool to take the picture.

    Did you locate the shortcut key for BIOS Boot Menu (normally F10 or F12) given on first bootup screen?

    That way you can set one HD to boot first, then interrupt it with the shortcut key if you want to boot to other HD. You don't have to enter BIOS setup to choose the other HD to boot first.

    Booting via BIOS keeps the HD"s independent, can come and go as you please.

    Dual Boot DOES work with EasyBCD 2.0 BUILD 79

    First many thanks to theog, Saltgrass & gregrocker for their help.

    Thing I was doing wrong is that I was booting from 1st HD which was the XP drive not the win 7 drive as it should have been.

    Now the EasyBCD has correctly configured the 2nd HD ( XP ) as "boot" device not as "E" as it was in the previous configuration.
    The correct boot manager is the following:

    C:\Windows\system32>bcdedit

    Διαχείριση εκκίνησης των Windows
    --------------------------------
    αναγνωριστικό {bootmgr}
    device partition=C:
    path \bootmgr
    description Windows Boot Manager
    locale el-GR
    inherit {globalsettings}
    default {current}
    resumeobject {bc6ff440-0b6b-11df-bb45-806e6f6e6963}
    displayorder {current}
    {9ec6d242-0aaa-11df-b08f-829f0d5f7be9}
    timeout 30

    Πρόγραμμα φόρτωσης εκκίνησης των Windows
    ----------------------------------------
    αναγνωριστικό {current}
    device partition=C:
    path \Windows\system32\winload.exe
    description Windows 7 Ultimate (ανακτήθηκε)
    locale el-GR
    recoverysequence {9ec6d223-0aaa-11df-b08f-829f0d5f7be9}
    recoveryenabled Yes
    osdevice partition=C:
    systemroot \Windows
    resumeobject {d2201dc4-0d13-11df-a0bc-806e6f6e6963}

    Τομέας εκκίνησης πραγματικής λειτουργίας
    ----------------------------------------
    αναγνωριστικό {9ec6d242-0aaa-11df-b08f-829f0d5f7be9}
    device boot
    path \NTLDR
