    can't get on my new windows 7 laptop!

    I just upgraded my brand new acer aspire from vista to windows 7. Everything went fine through the installation, until I rebooted for the final time, and it brought up the login window with the "administrator" account and "other user" account showing. The administrator account, if clicked on, says that it is disabled. The "other user" account asks for a user name and password, but I never set one up! I'm stuck! I've looked and looked for similar cases on the forums and all over the web, but haven't come across anything. Any direction someone could give me would be great.

    Why would I go to a vista forum if my system is now running windows 7? One solution I thought would work was I went into safe mode and went into command prompt as the administrator (the disabled administrator account doesn't have a pw) and ran command prompt for enabling the administrator account. It said it completed the command successfully. When I restarted it, it still tells me the administrator account is disabled.

    7 was built on the vista kernal, things that work for vista, OFTEN work for 7. .... thats why you would go there.... especially to try something out that you cant figure out

    Hello, parkerfarms;

    The same solutions apply equally for 7 and Vista.

    Here is a link to an updated 7 Tutorial on enabling the Default Administrator Account when there are no user accounts with administrator privileges:

    User Account Password - Change from WinRE

    The other solution in the Vista Forum is to download a bootable cd and use it to change the Administrator password so you can login.

    Cheers!

    Iseeuu, Thank you so much! the link for Change from WinRe laid out exactly what I needed to do. Worked like a charm. Thanks everyone for your comments. It helped greatly.

    You are most welcome! Thanks should go to theog, who was first to offer this solution and Dinesh, the author of the tutorial for 7.

    We are glad you got it sorted out. It is a team effort here at Windows Seven Forums.

    Cheers!
